THE SIXTH FLOOR MUSEUM

Image
John F. Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States is believed to have been shot down from this exact building by a sniper. According to JFK library and museum he was hit twice, in the neck and in the head at around 12:30pm on November 22, 1963. He was urgently taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital only a few minutes down the street. However president Kennedy was pronounced dead shortly after at 1:00pm. In the images above we see the now John F. Kennedy museum that at the time was a book depository from where the shot that killed the president came from.  Down below is the picture of the famous presidential motorcade that president Kennedy was on when he was shot. The other pictures are of the museum currently how it exhibits a sniper rifle like the one that killed president Kennedy as well as how the room was set up when authorities went up a discovered the room. It was crazy to see this in person. To think that there are people out there that would go out of their way to...

WEEK 9 : SPACE + ART

Image
Space is something that has been around for longer than our earth. Until this day we still don’t know the exact nature or extent of space as it is an on going research and exploration for scientist with the help of robotics. Being that outer space is so vast and unknown we don’t have the technology to safely travel anywhere so we use robotics to traverse these planets in order to find more information about them. We also use them to see what kind of environment they have compared to our earth. The race to space all started with the launch of the first satellite by the Soviet Union name Sputnik in 1957. With the help of artist, writers and musicians who dreamed of humans in space was what fed the space age. Artist believe that they play a key role in future space activities and being able to communicate that to people in a way they can understand. Space art is also known as astronomical art that shows the wonders of the universe. Unlike other genre, space art is newer than others. Many ...

WEEK 8 : NANOTECH + ART

Image
Nanotechnology is “use of matter on atomic, molecular, and supramolecular scales for industrial purposes.” Something that most people have only herd of or seen on sifi movies where they can actually be seen because there is so many of them. However we see nanotechnology on a daily biases even though we have no idea that it is there. There are many different industries that use nanotechnologies in their products in order to make them better. Some of these industries include the food, agricultural, automotive, and medical industries. Food industries use them to give products more nutrients or flavors than they would without them. The agricultural industries use them to make fruits and vegetables last longer so they can stay on shelfs at store without going bad before the consumer can buy them take them home and eat them. The medical industries has been able to use them to target specific cells or tissue in the body while avoiding the healthy cells. This has been one of the biggest ...

Leonardo Da Vinci + Gravity

Image
Every one knows who Leonardo Da Vinci is because of his famous art work. Two of his most famous art pieces that he is very well known for are the Mona Lisa and Last Supper. But not many people including my self know who Leonardo Da Vinci really was or how incredibly smart and talented he was. Leonardo Da Vinci wasn't just an artist but made amazing discoveries in various other fields. These field include Flight, Engineering, Geology, Mathematics, Optics, and Botany. It is quite amazing the contributions that he has made to all these fi...

WEEK 7: NEUROSCIENCE+ART

Image
This week we learned about neuroscience in connection with art and how the two coincide with one another. It is very interesting  because that is not something I ever thought could be connected, although I have seen how intricate neuroscience pictures of the brain look. I never thought of an artist working with a neuroscientist to create art could be possible. All the different resources professor Vesna supplied us with along with all her insightful lectures really helped me get a better understanding and see the connection between neuroscience and art. Some of the art works that stood out the most to me were the ones regarding the Brainbow. This is so interesting that we went from only being able to see only a few neurons, brain cells, glow green by using fluorescent green protein into the DNA of the cells. To currently now being able to see about 90 different colors that is now called the "brainbow". Who would have thought that by using different ratios of red, green, and b...

WEEK 6: BIOTECH + ART

Image
This weeks topic regarding Biotech and art was very informative while at the same time very interesting. I really enjoyed this topic because the possibilities are endless for this kind of art, however there it gets to a point where the type of art becomes very controversial to the viewers do to the techniques used to create that art. This includes techniques like  transgenics, mutilation, mutation, recombinance or selective breeding. What  intrigues  me the most about this controversy is that some of these techniques seem to be only controversial when the artist uses them,  however   we have scientist that do similar kind of techniques for research purposes and that doesn't get the same  controversy or negative attention. This is a great example that we see on a day to day life. The use of genetically modified organism include, fruits, vegetables and animals. The definition of GMO is " A genetically modified organism contains DNA t...

WEEK 4: MEDTECH + ART

Image
Medical technologies have always fascinating me with all their high-tech machinery that can do things I never knew were even possible. I feel like there is so many different medical technology that the average person does not know about unless they have had to deal with it or seen it in or movie or something. One of the things that stood out to me the most from the lectures was how the the Human project which took two real humans, a man and women, and cut them in really thin slices and and digitized them in order to help with medical and scientific research. Another thing that really catches my attention and has always fascinated me was the ability for plastic surgeons to complete redo someones face or part of their body that they either don't like and or need redone do to some accident. The queens of plastic surgery also know as the Kardashians became really famous due to their incredible bodies that they were able to attain due to plastic surgery. Plastic surgeons can either cre...
